As the school year comes to an end, one of the last experiences before graduating and entering the next chapter of the seniors’ lives is the annual luau. On Thursday, Apr. 20th, the Class of 2017 spent the day at the Kendall Indian Hammocks Park as a part of Senior Week. Among the activities at the luau were various outdoor sports, rock climbing, and surfing on a simulator. The food provided by Dr. Ed Dickson’s food truck, Dickson Smokehouse, included smoked chicken, pulled pork, bacon wrapped meatloaf, and ribs.

“It was a lot of fun just being able to hang out with all the seniors one more time before we graduate next month,” senior Sophia Fundora said.

Seniors were excited to spend the day outdoors and were eager to try out all of the activities offered. A national franchise and local favorite, Bahama Bucks, brought their truck to the event and offered free shaved ice to the participants and chaperones.  The event was a good opportunity for classmates to make some of their final memories together.

“I think it was a well put-together event that allowed the seniors to enjoy some well- deserved downtime from school,” Zoology teacher Erica Echeverri said.
